Rain
Chains!
Rain
chains are a decorative and fun way to get the water from your rain
gutters to a drain or rain barrel. Typically found in Japan and the
Dominican Republic, rain chains can consist of a series of metal cups
with a hole in the bottom of each, or an actual chain woven in a
decorative weave. Chain material can range from plastic at the lower
end, to stainless steel or copper at the higher end. Rain chains can
act as a point of focus during meditation or simply as something nice
to watch and listen to when it rains. If you put the end of the rain
chain into a barrel the rain chain will help areate the water,
minimizing algae growth and producing great water for your garden.
To order measure the length you need
to the nearest 6". Rain chains are in My
Etsy Shop.
The top cup of my rain chains feature a larger flow-through cup that
funnels the water from the downspout hole to the smaller cups below.
My rain chains come complete with no-tools mounting hardware. Simply
disconnect your old downspout from the rain gutter, slip the mounting
bar into the gutter's downspout hole, and installation is complete!
Worried about the weight of the chain
pulling down your gutters? Not a problem. The lightweight stainless
steel cups have
holes in each cup to ensure no water is retained in the chain after the
rain stops.
Concerned about leaves getting stuck
in the cups? Put a square of flyscreen over the downspout hole inside
the gutter; no leaves will pass.
