The Staff of Light Mage's Mace
The Staff of Light - Mage's Mace

Features a lacquered sugar maple staff topped with a 4" (100mm) crystal ball captured in a  tri-blade mace.
The ball is lit from beneath with a 10W LED (60W incandescent equivalent) lamp that shines a white focused beam up to 100m away!
The lamp is operated using a secret that only the owner knows. It is, after all, a magic staff.

Propane Burner This beautiful propane fire-table bypasses municipal firepit laws and will not annoy your neighbours with the smell of wood smoke. It runs on a standard 20 lb propane cylinder hidden under the unit for up to 40 hours to offer a cozy and distinctive conversation space in your outdoor entertaining area.

The metal framework is a low-rise patio table. The glass top is long gone, replaced with reclaimed pallet wood. The top includes oak, maple, and poplar finished with a satin outdoor wood sealant to bring out the natural beauty of the wood and still maintain some of its rustic charm. The permanently mounted stainless steel fire-bowl features clear, amber and green glass beads to dress up the burner. The bowl stays cool to the touch, and the lid can be placed on top when not in use.
Measures about 18"H X 42"W (45 X 107cm).

Butterfiles and Dragonflies Here are a couple of my railroad spike dragonflies hanging out with a couple of my butterflies on a tree stump.
butterflies These butterflies measure about 4" across and use 2" common nails for the feet and antennae. The sheet metal for these pieces came from a couple of body panels from a pickup truck. Each butterfly has a washer on the two front feet so the butterfly can be hung from a hook or screwed to a post. No two butterflies have the same coloration. I start with either a grey, white or black base, then line up a bunch of them and grab a few cans of colourful spray paint. A little here, a little there, makes for unique butterflies.
Railroad Spike Dragonfly These railway spike dragonflies use matched butter knife blades as the wings and 2" common nails for the feet. One front foot on each dragonfly has a washer on it to allow it to be hung from a wall hook or screwed to a post. These dragonflies are clear-coated with lacquer to prevent rust,. Some dragonflies have a brightly painted thorax in yellow, red, bue, green, purple, or orange.

Railroad Spike Falling Man This piece is "Falling Man". Made from five railroad spikes and a bit of plate steel, this item works well as both desk art and a jewelry holder. If you look at the base you can see the snow and ice our hero is slipping on.

Open/Closed Saw Sign This piece uses a pair of reclaimed Diston handsaws and a bit of ingenuity to create a functioning open/closed sign. Two saws with nearly identical blade geometries were disassembled and the words cut into each blade. The slot in the handle was widened to accept both blades and a sparating piece of steel sandwiched between the two. The three pieces were then painted, assembled into the handle, and a hand-made stainless chain added to allow the piece to be flipped to the appropriate side.

Welcome Saw Sign This Welcome sign is another reclaimed Diston hand saw. The handle has been cleaned up and re-coated with semi-gloss wood sealer. The blade was cleaned up with a little WD-40 and a wire brush before the letters were cut into it. The blade was then coated with clear lacquer and reassembled into the handle. Notice the one handle bolt missing? That's the way I got it. I could have put in another nn-matching bolt but that would not have looked right. The missing bolt shows perserverence and over-engineering. Even with a missing handle bolt, this saw was capable of continuing to do its job. Just like some hard-working folks I know.
Maple Stump Clock This clock is made from a piece of sugar maple harvested from a tree in my front yard. The piece is about 6" across and shows a large crack in the face. This occurred during the drying process. The crack is a symbol of how even imperfect things can do their job. They may have their flaws, but they can be relied upon to accurately do the job right and on time. The quartz movement runs for a year on a single AA battery. The number markers are burned into the face with a burning tool.
Mint Tin Clock Mint tin clock made from a Christmas mint tiin lid. Measures about 8" across, the quartz movement runs for a year on a single AA battery.

Shop Time Circular Saw Clock This clock has a great masculine look that will be right at home in any shop, garage, ir man-cave. The face is a 7 1/4" circular saw blade with the words "Shop Time" and the number markers plasma-cut into it. The quartz movement will run for a year on a singe AA battery. The clock is mounted via a hole near the 12 o'clock position.

Maple Stump Table This beautiful sugar maple stump table is cut from a tree in my front yard that needed to come down before it hurt the house. The legs are rebar with large washers welded to the bottom as feet to keep the piece from sinking into soft ground or scratching your patio. The finish is a high-gloss varathane to bring out the natural beauty of the burls and swirls in the wood. Height is 18", length is 18", width is 12".

The finish is a matte wood sealer to bring out the natural beauty of the burls and swirls in the wood. Heights are 14", 18", and 28". The 28" stools feature a foot rest.

Chimenea This chiminea stove is made from a reclaimed 20 lb propane cylinder. The square tubing standoffs keep the bottom away from grass and your patio and give a little more stability. The chimney features a cooking surface that allows you to boil a kettle, pop popcorn, or cook a single-pan meal in minutes. If you load the chimney with fuel and use the door to control airflow, the stove acts like a rocket stove and can burn extremely efficiently. Works great with carboard, wood, charcoal, and any other solid fuel. The handle allows for easy carry during emptying.

This item is made from much thicker steel than similar stoves you find at the big box stores. It will outlast several of them, and it's made locally from reclaimed materials.

Fire God Firepit This portable firepit is another reclaimed 20 lb propane cylinder. It features two angry fire-god faces cut into it. The mouths are large enough to accept 2 X 4 scraps and the flames beautifully show off the mouth, eyes, and nose cutouts. The horns are functional; they spew smoke when the firepit is operating. The legs keep the firepit away from flammable grass. This little fire-god burns wood, charcoal, paper, any solid fuel.

Fire God Firepit with Stainless Steel Horns This little fellow features stainless steel functional horns. When the flames are at full roar, smoke comes out the horns. Get this beast hot enough and the horns will turn blue and straw-coloured from the heat.

Dual Tire Rim Firepit This dual-rim firepit features legs to keep it away from flammable grass and allow for efficient burning. The holes in the rim allow air into the bottom of the fire, while the design directs that air upward to create complete combustion. When the fire has burned out, all that's left is white ash that can be used as compost.

This piece can be used as a cooker which has much more relaxed rules for homeowners than a firepit. You cna cook hot dogs and marshmallows over the open flame at the top, or boil a kettle of water, or fry up a couple of steaks in a pan on the middle while baking potatoes in foil around the edge.

This firepit works very well on 2 X 4 and 2 X 6 scraps as well as charcoal, sticks, and any solid fuel.
